While covering a high profile celebrity murder trial, Pepper (Rebecca Romijn) and the WEIE staff learn that Jack (Brett Cullen, who does not appear in the episode) has been replaced by Les Gaye (guest star Fred Koehler, "ER"), the newly appointed news director. Les and Pepper don't see eye-to-eye when he conveys his new entertainment-oriented approach to reporting the news. One day into Pepper's mandatory vacation, Charlie (Josh Hopkins) and Chick (Rider Strong) call on her to help them uncover the truth behind the suspicious murder trial. Brooke Burns and Lindsay Price also star.
