Thieves
Despite the fact that John Stamos' wife, Rebecca Romijn, is an actress, it's not likely that you'll be seeing her on his new ABC action drama, "Thieves," which debuts this fall.
"She's too much money," Stamos joked with reporters during Sunday's (July 22) Television Critics Association Press Tour. "She's a diva."
Seriously, Stamos said that he and his wife made a pact not to get involved in each other's projects, and he plans to stick to that.
Stamos, who is also an executive producer on the series, said he was looking for a more "grown up" character when he became attracted by the idea of playing a Gary Grant-like character from "To Catch a Thief."
"But then I realized I wasn't cool enough," Stamos laughs, so creator Jim Leonard "came back with a guy who wanted to be like those guys, and that was what was so interesting to me."
Stamos described the character as a self-deprecating antihero who's not afraid to look foolish. The actor says he also doesn't mind that co-star Melissa George gets all the glory as the show's tough guy, "I'm not afraid to let her be the stronger, smarter one, it's fun for me," he says with a smirk on his face.
"Quite frankly, it makes it easier working because I'd rather her just kick everybody's ass and then I?ll just talk my way out of it, and I would in real life. I'd just go have a drink or something." he says.
Despite the fact that Romijn won't be appearing in front of the camera, doesn't mean she doesn't have any say behind the scenes.
"Rebecca saw it and said, 'That's the guy that I fell in love with.' So I was like, 'Well okay. Maybe we're onto -- at least she likes it.'"
Romijn has appeared in the films "X-Men," "Ausin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and the upcoming "Simone," starring Al Pacino. She has also appeared on the TV series "Just Shoot Me."
Stamos' credits include the long-running series "Full House" and "General Hospital." He also executive produced the TV movie "The Beach Boys: An American Family."
