2000 (03-09): 20th Century Fox luncheon
The Me, Myself and Irene crew wasn't the only collection of mutants on hand at Thursday's (03-09-2000, RRF) Fox luncheon. A slew of X-Men also materialized to wow exhibitors. Director Bryan Singer and cast members as Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen and Rebecca Romijn
(noticeably MIA: Storm portrayer Halle Berry, who was apparently too busy dealing with her legal woes in L.A. to make the trip to Vegas) took the dais to much applause. They introduced a new, longer trailer for the comic-book adaptation that shows off each hero and his/her power.
The flick promises to be one of summer's biggest blockbusters--if Singer can finish it. "Of the 350
special-effect shots, only eight are done," he confesses.
Nonetheless, Fox has big plans for the X-Men. "We expect to spawn a franchise," says Fox studio boss Bill Mechanic. In fact, Janssen tells E! Online that she's already signed up to reprise her role as the telepathic Jean Gray in a sequel.
