1997 (12-16): Year in Style (MTV)

Model Rebecca Romijn, whose face has graced numerous magazine covers and TV commercials, will now be seen talking and walking, too, as the new host of MTV's "House of Style."

In taking over the microphone on the cabler's now-quarterly fashion series, Romijn (pronounced "romaine"), is following the likes of Daisy Fuentes and Cindy Crawford.

Romijn makes her first appearance in her new role Dec. 16 at 10 p.m. on an hour-long "Year in Style."

"I love doing television," Romijn told The News yesterday (12-09-1997, RRF). "It's exactly what I wanted to do. I don't want to act. This is exactly where I want to be right now in my life. It's not scary for me, I feel I can do it well."

"It's about letting me be in my own skin," she said. "That's why I'm not interesting in acting. I'm very strong in my own skin. I don't necessarily feel like trying to get into other characters. That's why I love doing those talk shows, that's why I love doing 'House of Style.' I feel I come off better in that medium than in pictures. Modeling has treated me very well, but I never felt like I was the best model. I feel comfortable on TV."
