Rebecca Romijn and Laura Harring ("Mulholland Drive") are now confirmed to star in Jonathan Hensleigh's "The Punisher" alongside John Travolta and Thomas Jane ("The Sweetest Thing").

Based on the popular Marvel Comics series, the film follows FBI undercover agent Frank Castle (Jane), whose family is executed by the mob as a repercussion of his law-enforcement work. Castle sets out to punish the killers, unexpectedly finding redemption in the process. One such killer is Howard Saint (John Travolta), a man involved in the criminal underworld who has managed to conceal his violent beginnings and become a paragon of society until, when his son is brutally slain, a darker, vengeful side re-emerges.

Harring will play Saint's ruthless, evil wife. "X2: X-Men United" star Rebecca Romijn is in negotiations to play Joan, the Punisher's neighbor who lives by herself and is unaware of Saint's alter ego.

Jane has been training with four Navy SEALs and working out twice a day for the film. About the realistic fight scenes, Jane says that the training is "old-school stuff." In an effort to make the scenes as realistic as possible, Jane tried to get a mental picture of what the violence would really be like.

"What it usually comes down to is, you poke their eyes out, you slit their throat, break their nose, brutal stuff. That kind of ends the fight kind of quickly. That's why you don't see it too much. No wires, no 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' stuff. It's all going to be real world," says Jane.

Harring, who is currently shooting Paul Hills' "The Poet" opposite Dougray Scott, will be seen next in Larry Charles' "Masked & Anonymous" with Bob Dylan. Romijn will be seen next in Nick Hamm's "Godsend" opposite Greg Kinnear and Robert DeNiro.

Production on "The Punisher" is scheduled to begin next month in Florida.
