In Style Interview 04/2006

The core elements of Romijn's fitness routine are Pilates workouts four times a week and 40 minute cardio session five to six days a week. The variable is her diet: She has low fat, high protein Zone meals delivered when she wants to be at her fittest. "When I met Jerry, each day was an opportunity for a romantic excursion and I enjoyed every meal," she says. Then it came time to prepare for X Men: The Last Stand. "I didn't look like Mystique. I knew I had to shape up,' says Romijn. Her thoughts on meeting that goal:
WEIGHTY ISSUES: "I never step on the scale. I don't even own one, so it was awful reading in the tabloids about my weight gain, 'She ballooned from 125 lbs. to 150 Ibs.!" I haven't been 125 pounds since I was 15 years old. I needed to lose around 15 pounds, but I was never worried about it, and I'm not trying to lose weight now," says Romijn. O'Connell doesn't understand the fuss: "I never saw her as being overweight, and I feel like she's too skinny right now."
DIET PLAN: "I get the day off to a good start with two eggs, poached, scrambled or soft boiled. I do have a sweet tooth and I need to watch that I had three amazing cookies yesterday! I don't drink wine during the week, just on the week ends. Sometimes, when I've got my Zone dinner, Jerry will bring home a pepperoni pizza and I'll have a bite or two."
SLEEK PHYSIQUE: "After a couple of years of modeling l started working out, but I never felt good. When I turned to Pilates eight years ago I began to feel strong, flexible and healthy. I got an understanding of my body like I never had before. It's totally empowering."
PERFECT GAME: "When Rebecca came to me she had scoliosis, inward rotating legs and constant neck pain," says her longtime Pilates trainer and friend Lori Amoscato who has helped her overcome those problems. "Her body is now functioning perfectly. I haven't yet had a client who can do everything she can do, including things like Russian splits on the Pilates Universal Reformer table."
DISCO INFERNO: "Jerry and I make each other playlists ever, week for the gym," says Romijn. "The one I'm listening to now has Linda Clifford, Natasha Bedingfield and some Shirley Bassey remixes. I love, love disco. I like techno too - anything I can play so loud that I can't hear myself breathe."
