07-28-1998: Men's Fashion Week (Lot 61, NYC)
TO Scottish Broadway star Alan Cumming, Men's Fashion Week in New York has been like home away from home. "What will intrigue me this week about the men's shows will be the different types of music the designers will use, because I find that they always try and come out with new and exciting things," he told John Talamini of V2 at the Kenneth Cole show yesterday. But "But what I really love about fashion shows, is that they tend to be more like theatre, these great big theatrical events." Kenneth Cole's was not the only show in town: Tommy Hilfiger managed to pull the likes of Rebecca Romijn, Tyra Banks, Patricia Velasquez, Rachel Hunter, Puff Daddy and the aforesaid Scottish Cabaret star to Lot 61 to see his menswear collection last night. Nor was it the most spectacular: as the official airline of the New York Spring 99 Men's Collections, Air France has installed a model of one of its Concordes, complete with a pukka Andree Putman interior, at the New York Public Library. And company VP Jean-Luc Grilhault des Fontaines is flushed with pride: "Air France is very fashion-oriented," he chimes, "from our aircraft design to crew uniforms designed by the House of Ricci." The menswear shows in New York close tomorrow.

After (the show, RRF), while some models such as Natane and Astrid got down on the dance floor, others went off to private dinners. Naomi Campbell dined at Harry Cipriani with Fashion Cafe's Tomasso Buti and his wife Daniela Pestova, and a sleeker-looking Bridget Hall. Rebecca Romijn supped with IMG honcho Chuck Bennett and top agent Ivan Bart at the Post House, where Romijn revealed she plans to change her unique name when she weds the less-interestingly monikered John Stamos.
